I am a teaching partner with the TDSB and have been teaching silkscreening art classes to thousands of kids and adults for over 3 decades and I absolutely LOVE it!
I can come to you, or you can bring your school class to my funky studio in Toronto’s Queen West neighbourhood for a fun and educational silkscreen art class workshop.
One of my favourite themes for silkscreen workshops (especially with kids and teens) is “Craftivism”.
It’s simply using a craft as a means of activism. I help the group come up with ideas for causes that they care about, and then ways to create art to spread awareness about that cause.
They can make tee-shirts, tote bags or just about anything else to spread their message, and young people REALLY get into it!
I see them come alive with ideas, super inspired about the idea of having a voice for something they care about through art!
They often also come up with ideas to raise funds for their cause by selling tee-shirts or other printed items. It’s such a winning formula - they learn a new skill, they get creative and they see how they can make change in the world around something that matters to them!
