“I can’t draw.”
We hear it ALL the time, and frankly it gets Kingi riled up!!! 😤
All children are artists! They're self-expressive all the time; experimental, acting, dancing, singing, drawing, painting, playing with dirt or food and having a blast in the creative process.
We're born to practice art!! And it's a fun, joyful, social experience that really brings people together and builds community. It's good for your brain function and for your mental health.
Children are naturally proud of everything they make! They're amazed at how it turned out, even when it's a scribble! And they move on to the next one, learning every step of the way.
For most people though, that gets blocked along the way - still in childhood no less! How sad is that?! 😢
Between ages 10 and 13, kids are figuring out if they are in the "chosen few" who get to call themselves "artistic".
They get told their drawing is no good, or that a "real artist" draws or paints a certain way. One false step from a critical or dismissive art teacher, parent, friend or even just their own self-critical comparison of their work to others, and by the age of 15 or so, they decide they aren't artistic.
Only a very small percentage decide they are artistic and keep practicing art - and it often boils down to the ones who got enough opportunity, praise, support and encouragement to just keep going!
So, if you're a grown adult who thinks they aren't artistic, let's remember who made that decision and get you back in touch with your creative self!

At Peach Berserk, creativity is for everyone! 🥰
After all… Charlie Brown is basically circles and squiggles, and yet people around the world feel so much emotion when they see him. Some of the most beloved art in the world is simple, weird, expressive, raw, playful, emotional, and imperfect.
✨ That’s the magic of art! ✨
In this workshop, artist and Peach Berserk founder Kingi Carpenter will help you loosen up, experiment, and reconnect with drawing in a joyful, pressure-free way.
She's built her career on her simple and fun drawings, which have been the basis of her silkscreen printed clothing line and Peach Berserk brand for decades.
She'll laughingly tell you herself, "I'm SO bad at drawing - but it doesn't matter!" Her iconic Queen West boutique, for decades a Toronto must-see bursting at the seams with dresses, tops, shirts, skirts and more - everything covered with Kingi's art!
Her famous boutique attracted celebrities, tourists and all kind of wonderful folks from all walks of life coming to buy Kingi's joyful wearable art clothing line!
And her art has really connected with all kinds of people. Maybe you're one of them!
Almost every day, people share with Kingi a treasured memory of a dress they custom ordered for a special occasion, and how incredible it was to have the fabric hand dyed, and hand printed by Kingi.
And then Kingi might say something like, "OMG I remember that dress!"
Kingi remembers how, when the dress was fitted, Kingi's hands were blue up to her wrists because she rushed to dye the dress and couldn't find any gloves, and she was a bit freaked out because she had spilt her beer on the dress 15 minutes earlier, but it was mostly washed out and anyway this was just a fitting. 😬
But the customer loved it, stayed for a beer while Kingi finished the dress and blow dried the beer stain. It took a week but Kingi's blue hands faded to normal for the most part.
(That is a fairly accurate description of the chaos behind the scenes sometimes at the iconic boutique back in the day 😂, and it's so much fun to share the memories and hear how Kingi's art really touched people's lives and became part of their special occasions.)
So many people share with Kingi their stories of the beautiful dress she made for their wedding, or graduation, or prom and how special they felt.
Her simple, scribbly, "bad drawings" connect with people, because her art is heart felt. ❤️❤️❤️ She just expresses herself, tries things, runs with bold and wacky ideas, adds scribbly lettering with spelling mistakes she didn't notice for 20+ years! ~ all that is her unique artistic style!
Kingi ❤️ loves ❤️ to help everyone develop their own artistic style in her workshops, through a mix of learning techniques, experimenting, and having fun along the way!
She can help you come up with an idea for a design that excites you!
Help you learn drawing techniques, for more tools in your artistic toolbox.

"We had the best day ever. Her exceptionally unique and creative space is a feast for the eyes. Kingi did such a wonderful job teaching us the art of silk screening!"
"What a good idea it was, to take Kingi's silkscreen workshop. The workspace is crazy inspirational, and I was so very happy with the t-shirts/artworks I got to take home.
But the star is Kingi herself - providing clear instructions, generous with advice and expertise. It was so good to get creative and learn a new artform, thank you Kingi! I'd recommend this class to anyone."
